Enjoy the Wine, Food and Surfing in Margaret River

Enjoy the Wine, Food and Surfing in Margaret River View large version Not far away from Perth, on the coastline, you will find Margaret River, a town well known to tourists for its wine, cuisine and great surfing locations.

In order to get to Margaret River, you can hop in your car and drive there. Although the town has an airport, flights are not often or regular. It is best to drive here from Perth, and should not take you more than three hours by car to get here. The route you need to take is Highway One, or Kwinana Freeway. There are other alternatives but it will take you longer if you choose them.

Besides your car, there are other ways to reach the town. You can always take the bus from Perth, first thing in the morning. If you do not want to spend your nights in Margaret River, or you booked accommodations in Perth, you can always take the bus back in the evening. By train is another possibility to travel to Margaret River, since the town is connected with the rest of the country. As far as transportation inside the city is concerned, you can always take a bike or walk around. If you have your own car, it is even better, especially if you want to explore nearby sites.

Here is a great idea to spend a day in Margaret River. Start by sipping your coffee in the famous roaster at Yahava and then pick up a little bit of cheese and crackers from the town’s dairy. Lunch can be served at the Colonial Brewery, where you will certainly enjoy sampling some beer. You can also leave your children to play on the local playground while you indulge in some good quality adult fun. The day trip can continue with a tour of the caves and the lighthouses that can be found here. Towards the end of the day, don’t forget to visit some wineries and have a little bit of wine tasting.

You will find Margaret River to be an area rich in wineries. Whether they are large companies or boutique wineries, the wine tasting is really great here. Some of these wineries are nothing more but a group of cellars stretched on hundreds of meters and nothing more. Great food is always served with the wine tasting, and you can also buy wine and other souvenirs to take home with you.

While Margaret River does not have a beach of its own, it is located nearby a few great beaches, like Gracetown and Dunsborough. There are also many sites to see in the city, like the caves, the Wardan Aboriginal Centre, the town’s own School of Wine, Cape Leeuwin and many others. If you like hiking, there is no better place to do that than on the Cape to Cape Track that goes around the town.

Bicycle tours are all the rage here and people are competing on tours coming from Perth. While in Margaret River, you can also indulge in some great surfing or swimming.
